When it comes to New Year’s resolutions, dieting is often at the top of the list. Most people resolve to either change what they are eating, how much they are eating, or when they are eating. But no one ever resolves to cut out food completely! Because no matter how much we cut down portions or cut out foods that are bad for us, we can’t cut food entirely out of our daily diet. Along with water, food is the essence of life; without it, we grow weak and eventually die. So we understand why no one chooses to experience physical starvation or malnutrition. Why, then, do we as Christians often choose to starve our spirits by neglecting our daily devotions?
